Most industrial robots repeat one motion, written line by line by an engineer. Project Meridian is testing a different idea: a robot that watches a person do a task a few dozen times and then does it itself.
In our latest trial, two Meridian hands learned to fold shirts from forty short demonstrations filmed on an ordinary phone. No motion code was written for the task. When the garments changed size and fabric, the hands adapted without new training.
Folding laundry is not the goal. The goal is a robot that a factory can teach in an afternoon, the way you would train a new colleague. We expect the first Meridian-based cells to enter field trials with Reinnder Robotics customers next year.
